jiù

1. adverb then; right after (sequential)

   他扫完地就出门了。

   Tā sǎo wán dì jiù chūmén le.

   He went out right after sweeping the floor.

2. adverb as early as; already (earlier or easier than expected)

   他六点就起床了。

   Tā liù diǎn jiù qǐchuáng le.

   He was up as early as six o'clock.

3. adverb only; just (limited scope or quantity)

   我就一个问题。

   Wǒ jiù yī ge wèntí.

   I have just one question.

4. adverb then (echoing a condition or supposition: 如果…就…, 只要…就…, 既然…就…)

   只要你愿意坚持，就一定会进步。

   Zhǐyào nǐ yuànyì jiānchí, jiù yīdìng huì jìnbù.

   As long as you are willing to persist, you will surely improve.

5. adverb insistently; firmly (unyielding attitude)
