jiǔ

1. numeral nine (homophone of 久 "long-lasting")

   现在是九点。

   Xiànzài shì jiǔ diǎn.

   It's nine o'clock now.

2. numeral a great many (in idioms, as in 九牛一毛)

   他费了九牛二虎之力才搬动那个柜子。

   Tā fèi le jiǔ niú èr hǔ zhī lì cái bān dòng nàge guìzi.
