下(xià) — meaning, uses and examples

1. verb to go down; to descend

   我们下楼吧。

   Wǒmen xià lóu ba.

   Let us go downstairs.

2. noun bottom; below

   猫在桌子下。

   Māo zài zhuōzi xià.

   The cat is under the table.

3. verb directional complement: downward

   他放下手机。

   Tā fàng xià shǒujī.
