起

qǐ

1. verb to get up (from lying or sitting)

   我每天六点起床。

   Wǒ měitiān liù diǎn qǐchuáng.

   I get up at six every day.

2. verb to rise; to arise

   海上起风了。

   Hǎi shàng qǐ fēng le.

   The wind is rising over the sea.

3. verb directional complement: upward or beginning

   我想起一首中文诗。

   Wǒ xiǎng qǐ yī shǒu Zhōngwén shī.

   I recalled a Chinese poem.
