可

kě

1. modal verb may; can (written form of 可以)

   这里可停车。

   Zhèlǐ kě tíngchē.

   Parking is allowed here.

2. adverb really; very (high degree)

   他可高兴了。

   Tā kě gāoxìng le.

   He was really happy.

3. adverb certainly (emphatic)

   我可没这么说！

   Wǒ kě méi zhème shuō!

   I certainly didn't say that!

4. adverb be sure to (urging, admonishing)

   路上可要小心啊！

   Lùshang kě yào xiǎoxīn a!

   Be sure to be careful on the road!

5. adjective worthy of; lovable/-able (可爱, 可惜)

   那个小姑娘真可爱。

   Nàge xiǎogūniang zhēn kě'ài.

   That little girl is really cute.

6. correlative conjunction but (= 可是)

   我想去，可没有时间。

   Wǒ xiǎng qù, kě méiyǒu shíjiān.

   I want to go, but I have no time.
