通过(tōngguò) — meaning, uses and examples

1. preposition through; by means of (introduces the means to an end)

   通过朋友介绍，他找到了工作。

   Tōngguò péngyou jièshào, tā zhǎo dào le gōngzuò.

   Through a friend's introduction, he found a job.

2. verb to pass through; to cross

   火车正在通过大桥。

   Huǒchē zhèngzài tōngguò dàqiáo.

   The train is crossing the bridge.

3. verb to pass (an exam or review)

   她顺利通过了考试。

   Tā shùnlì tōngguò le kǎoshì.

   She passed the exam smoothly.
