  1. adverb also; in addition (progressive)

    他不但会中文,还对电子科技有深入研究。

    Tā bùdàn huì Zhōngwén, hái duì diànzǐ kējì yǒu shēnrù yánjiū.

    He not only knows Chinese, but has also studied electronics in depth.

  2. adverb still; yet

    都十点了,他还没起床。

    Dōu shí diǎn le, tā hái méi qǐchuáng.

    It's already ten o'clock and he still isn't up.

  3. adverb even more (in comparisons)

    今天比昨天还热。

    Jīntiān bǐ zuótiān hái rè.

    Today is even hotter than yesterday.

  4. adverb passably; reasonably (还可以, 还好, 还行)

    这篇短文写得还算通顺。

    Zhè piān duǎnwén xiě de hái suàn tōngshùn.

    This short essay is written reasonably well.

huán

  1. verb to return; to give back

    这本书明天要还给图书馆。

    Zhè běn shū míngtiān yào huán gěi túshūguǎn.

    This book has to be returned to the library tomorrow.

  2. verb to return (a response): to bargain, hit back, talk back (还价, 还击, 还嘴)

    买东西时可以试着还价。

    Mǎi dōngxi shí kěyǐ shì zhe huánjià.

    You can try to bargain when buying things.

  3. verb to return to a place (written; 还乡)

    他终于衣锦还乡了。

    Tā zhōngyú yījǐn-huánxiāng le.

    He finally returned to his hometown in glory.
