biān

1. noun side; edge

   河边有很多柳树。

   Hé biān yǒu hěn duō liǔshù.

   There are many willows along the river.

2. suffix suffix in locality words (上边, 外边)

   书在桌子上边。

   Shū zài zhuōzi shàngbiān.

   The book is on top of the desk.

3. adverb (in 边…边…) while; doing two things at the same time
