gāi

  1. modal verb should (colloquial)

    你该休息了。

    Nǐ gāi xiūxi le.

    You should get some rest.

  2. verb to be someone's turn

    该你了。

    Gāi nǐ le.

    It's your turn.

  3. pronoun the said; the aforementioned (formal, written)

    该计划将于下月实施。

    Gāi jìhuà jiāng yú xià yuè shíshī.

    The plan will be implemented next month.

  4. adverb should; probably (conjecture)

    天快黑了,他该到了吧。

    Tiān kuài hēi le, tā gāi dào le ba.

    It's getting dark, he should have arrived by now.
