绝(jué) — meaning, uses and examples

1. verb to sever; to cut off

   两人大吵一架，从此绝交了。

   Liǎng rén dà chǎo yī jià, cóngcǐ juéjiāo le.

   After a big quarrel, the two broke off their friendship for good.

2. adjective hopeless; dead-end

   他被债务逼上了绝路。

   Tā bèi zhàiwù bīshàng le juélù.

   Debt drove him to a dead end.

3. adjective unique; superb

   老师傅这手绝活儿真了不起。

   Lǎo shīfu zhè shǒu juéhuór zhēn liǎobuqǐ.

   The old master's unique skill is truly remarkable.

4. adverb absolutely

   我绝无此意，请你放心。

   Wǒ jué wú cǐ yì, qǐng nǐ fàngxīn.

   I have absolutely no such intention — rest assured.
