lì

1. verb to stand; to erect

   门口立着一块牌子。

   Ménkǒu lìzhe yī kuài páizi.

   A sign stands at the entrance.

2. verb to establish; to set up

   他立下了远大的志向。

   Tā lìxià le yuǎndà de zhìxiàng.

   He set a lofty goal for himself.

3. adverb immediately (literary)

   Zhè zhǒng yào jiànxiào kuài, yào dào bìng chú, lì jiàn chéngxiào.

   This medicine works fast — results are immediate.
