离(lí) — meaning, uses and examples

1. preposition (distance) from; away from (introduces the reference point in space or time)

   我家离学校很近。

   Wǒ jiā lí xuéxiào hěn jìn.

   My home is very close to the school.

2. verb to leave; to part from

   他离开家乡十年了。

   Tā líkāi jiāxiāng shí nián le.

   He left his hometown ten years ago.
