zhēn

1. adverb really; truly (intensifier in exclamations)

   今天真冷！

   Jīntiān zhēn lěng!

   It's really cold today!

2. adjective real; true; genuine

   这是真的，不是假的。

   Zhè shì zhēn de, bù shì jiǎ de.

   It's real, not fake.

3. noun essence; one's true nature (literary, in compounds like 天真, 纯真)

   他说话直来直去，保留了一份天真。

   Tā shuōhuà zhílái zhíqù, bǎoliú le yī fèn tiānzhēn.

   He speaks straightforwardly and retains a sense of innocence.
