顿(dùn) — meaning, uses and examples

   我们好好吃了一顿。

   Wǒmen hǎohǎo chī le yī dùn.

   We had ourselves a good meal.

2. measure word classifier: bouts of scolding or beating

   他因为撒谎被爸爸骂了一顿。

   Tā yīnwèi sāhuǎng bèi bàba mà le yī dùn.

   He got a scolding from his dad for lying.

3. verb to pause (as in 停顿, 顿时)

   他顿了一下才继续说。

   Tā dùn le yīxià cái jìxù shuō.

   He paused a moment before continuing.
