chú

1. preposition except; not counting

   除了他，大家都到了。

   Chúle tā, dàjiā dōu dào le.

   Everyone has arrived except him.

2. verb to remove; to get rid of

   要先除掉地里的杂草。

   Yào xiān chúdiào dì lǐ de zácǎo.

   First remove the weeds from the field.

3. verb to divide (arithmetic)

   十除以二等于五。

   Shí chú yǐ èr děngyú wǔ.

   Ten divided by two equals five.
