1. verb to connect; to join

   这两个村子连在一起了。

   Zhè liǎng gè cūnzi lián zài yīqǐ le.

   The two villages have merged together.

2. preposition 连…都/也: pushes an element to the extreme as focus; even

   他忙得连饭都没吃。

   Tā máng de lián fàn dōu méi chī.

   He was so busy he did not even eat.

3. preposition including; counting in

   连本带利一共五千块。

   Lián běn dài lì yīgòng wǔqiān kuài.

   Principal and interest together come to five thousand yuan.

4. adverb in succession; one after another

   他连问了三个问题。

   Tā lián wèn le sān gè wèntí.

   He asked three questions in a row.

5. noun company (military unit of about 100 soldiers)

   他所在的部队是战斗英雄连。

   Tā suǒzài de bùduì shì zhàndòu yīngxióng lián.

   The unit he serves in is a hero combat company.
