1. verb to carry; to transport

   这辆卡车能载五吨货。

   Zhè liàng kǎchē néng zài wǔ dūn huò.

   This truck can carry five tons of cargo.

2. adverb and; both...and (classical, 载歌载舞)

   联欢会上大家载歌载舞。

   Liánhuānhuì shàng dàjiā zài gē zài wǔ.

   At the gala everyone sang and danced.

载zǎi

1. noun year (classical)

   他离乡已经三年五载了。

   Tā lí xiāng yǐjīng sān nián wǔ zǎi le.

   He has been away from home for years now.

2. verb to record (in writing)

   这段历史史书上有记载。

   Zhè duàn lìshǐ shǐshū shàng yǒu jìzǎi.

   This chapter of history is recorded in the annals.
