gēn

1. correlative conjunction and (linking noun phrases; colloquial)

   Wǒ gēn tā shì tóngshì.

   He and I are colleagues.

2. preposition to; with (introduces the target of an action)

   这件事你要跟老师说。

   Zhè jiàn shì nǐ yào gēn lǎoshī shuō.

3. preposition (together) with

   你跟我走。

   Nǐ gēn wǒ zǒu.

   Come with me.

4. verb to follow

   前面带路的人走得太快，他跟不上。

   Qiánmiàn dàilù de rén zǒu de tài kuài, tā gēn bu shàng.

   The guide in front walked too fast for him to keep up.

5. noun heel (of the foot or a shoe)

   She is wearing high heels.
