xǔ

1. verb to allow; to permit

   妈妈不许我晚睡。

   Māma bù xǔ wǒ wǎn shuì.

   Mom doesn't allow me to stay up late.

2. adverb perhaps; maybe

   他也许明天来。

   Perhaps he will come tomorrow.
