给gěi

1. verb to give

   Tā gěi le wǒ yī běn shū.

   He gave me a book.

2. preposition for; to

   我给你买了一个礼物。

   Wǒ gěi nǐ mǎi le yī ge lǐwù.

   I bought a gift for you.

3. particle colloquial particle: passive marker, or intensifies disposal (把…给忘了)

   钱包给人偷了。

   Qiánbāo gěi rén tōu le.

   The wallet got stolen.

给jǐ

1. verb to supply (written; 给予, 供给)

   政府给予了他们帮助。

   Zhèngfǔ jǐyǔ le tāmen bāngzhù.

   The government gave them help.
