次(cì) — meaning, uses and examples

1. measure word classifier: times (occurrences)

   我去过两次北京。

   Wǒ qùguo liǎng cì Běijīng.

   I've been to Beijing twice.

2. noun order; sequence (as in 次序, 名次)

   比赛按次序进行。

   Bǐsài àn cìxù jìnxíng.

   The competition proceeds in order.

3. adjective inferior; secondary (as in 次品, 其次)

   这批货有点次。

   Zhè pī huò yǒudiǎn cì.

   This batch of goods is a bit shoddy.
