欠

qiàn

1. adverb slightly lacking; a bit short of (with words like 佳, 妥)

   这道菜火候欠佳。

   Zhè dào cài huǒhou qiàn jiā.

   This dish is slightly undercooked.

2. verb to owe

   他还欠我两百块钱。

   Tā hái qiàn wǒ liǎng bǎi kuài qián.

   He still owes me two hundred yuan.

3. verb to lack; to be short of

   这样做欠考虑。

   Zhèyàng zuò qiàn kǎolǜ.

   Doing it this way is ill-considered.

4. verb to raise (part of the body) slightly

   他欠了欠身表示致意。

   Tā qiàn le qiàn shēn biǎoshì zhìyì.

   He half-rose in greeting.
