多

duō

1. adjective many; much (opposite of 少)

   图书馆里书很多。

   Túshūguǎn lǐ shū hěn duō.

   There are a lot of books in the library.

2. adverb how (asking about degree: 多高 how tall)

   他有多高？

   Tā yǒu duō gāo?

   How tall is he?

3. adverb how; so (exclamatory degree)

   你看这花多漂亮！

   Nǐ kàn zhè huā duō piàoliang!

   Look how pretty these flowers are!

4. numeral and more; odd (indicating a remainder)

   他三十多岁。

   Tā sānshí duō suì.

   He's in his thirties.

5. adverb more (in quantity or frequency); excessively (多吃一点, 多管闲事)

   你多吃一点儿。

   Nǐ duō chī yīdiǎnr.

   Eat a bit more.

6. adverb however; no matter how (多…也/都…)

   这件事情多难我也要完成它。

   Zhè jiàn shìqing duō nán wǒ yě yào wánchéng tā.

   No matter how difficult this matter is, I must complete it.
