吧ba

1. modal particle particle: seeking confirmation of a guess (right?)

   你是张老师吧？

   Nǐ shì Zhāng lǎoshī ba?

   You must be Teacher Zhang, right?

2. modal particle particle softening a request or suggestion (let's; why not)

   我们走吧。

   Wǒmen zǒu ba.

   Let's go.

3. modal particle particle of agreement or concession (all right)

   好吧，就听你的。

   Hǎo ba, jiù tīng nǐ de.

   All right, we'll do as you say.

4. modal particle mid-sentence particle listing alternatives in a dilemma (…吧，…吧)

   去吧，太累；不去吧，又不好意思。

   Qù ba, tài lèi; bù qù ba, yòu bù hǎoyìsi.

   Going would be too exhausting, but not going would feel awkward.

1. noun bar; venue for leisure (loanword: 酒吧, 网吧)

   今晚我们去酒吧喝酒。
