又

yòu

1. adverb again (of a repeated action or situation)

   他又来了。

   Tā yòu lái le.

   He came again.

2. adverb both ... and ...; indicates two coexisting qualities

   这道菜又香又辣。

   Zhè dào cài yòu xiāng yòu là.

   This dish is both fragrant and spicy.

3. adverb in addition; on top of what is already there

   这件事本来就麻烦，又出了新问题。

   Zhè jiàn shì běnlái jiù máfan, yòu chū le xīn wèntí.

   This matter was troublesome to begin with, and now a new problem has come up on top of it.

4. adverb yet; indicates two conflicting feelings or situations at once

   想去，又不敢去。

   Xiǎng qù, yòu bù gǎn qù.

   I want to go, yet I dare not.

5. adverb used in 又不是 etc. to strengthen a retort or denial

   又不是我的错。

   Yòu bù shì wǒ de cuò.

   It is not my fault, after all.
