1. verb namely; that is (written)

   她有一个原则，即不干涉别人的生活。

   Tā yǒu yī ge yuánzé, jí bù gānshè biérén de shēnghuó.

   She has one principle: not to interfere in other people's lives.

2. adverb immediately; at once (即刻, 即日)

   收到消息后，他即刻出发前往现场。

   Shōudào xiāoxi hòu, tā jíkè chūfā qiánwǎng xiànchǎng.

   Upon receiving the news, he set off immediately for the scene.

3. correlative conjunction even if (in 即使, 即便, 即或)

   即便遇到了极大的阻力，计划也必须按时推进。

   Jíbiàn yùdào le jídà de zǔlì, jìhuà yě bìxū ànshí tuījìn.

   Even if encountering immense resistance, the plan must proceed on schedule.
