1. pronoun he; him

   他是我的朋友。

   Tā shì wǒ de péngyou.

   He is my friend.

2. pronoun they (generic third person, gender unknown)

   谁在外面？让他进来。

   Shéi zài wàimian? Ràng tā jìnlái.

   Who is outside? Let them come in.

3. pronoun (expletive, between verb and quantity, colloquial)

   我们好好睡他一觉。

   Wǒmen hǎohǎo shuì tā yī jiào.

   Let's have a good sleep.

4. pronoun other; another (as in 他人, 他乡)

   我们不要干预他人的私事。

   Wǒmen bù yào gānyù tārén de sīshì.
